William Byron wins the Daytona 500 in Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott's old car, the number 24.
Notice this broke a 9 year losing streak at the Daytona 500 for Hendrick Motor Sports.
It also gave them their 9th win at the Daytona 500, tying the record with Petty Enterprises.
Today is also the 40th anniversary of Hendrick Motor Sports debuting.
In my previous posts today, I mentioned how I thought it was connected to Jeff Gordon and Kobe Bryant. Jeff Gordon retired after the final race in November 2015...and then Kobe Bryant announced that he was retiring on 11/29/2015. Kobe Bryant wore the number 24, and Jeff Gordon drove the number 24.
Notice that Kobe announced his retirement on William Byron's bday lol..Just can't make it up.
This win also comes 82 days, or 2 months 21 days after Byron's bday.

The obvious thing about his win is that it's the #24 car and it opens up the 24' season too.
I can't stop thinking about #9 and #24....the date 9/24 has been significant for me in multiple years.
Awhile ago I found what I thought were interesting connections between Kobe Bryant and the English poet Lord Byron. Byron was born 1-22-1788, 218 years before Kobe's greatest athletic feat where he scored 81 points on 1-22-2006. Byron died 4-19-1824, so his birth year ended in an 8 and his death year in 24 like Kobe's numbers. 4/19 is also interesting because 419 is the 81st prime #. Byron swan the Hellespont (a 4 mile strait between Greece and Turkey) on 5-3-1810. May 3rd is the 123rd day of the year. Lord Byron = 123. Hellespont = 126 like Kobe's death date. Byron's father reportedly wanted to name him William but didn't insist upon it so his mother named him George Gordon after her father. Both Kobe and Lord Byron spent 7 years of their lives in Italy. From William Byron's Daytona win to Prince William's birthday is 123 days. King Charles recently diagnosed with cancer may not last long as monarch. Charles = 123.
